A Stunning Visit to Cap Cana with Festival Guests

The Cap Cana Marina restarted its cinema exhibition on Saturday November 16th when it showed Operation E, a political thriller starring Spaniard Luis Tosar, as part of the Dominican Global Film Festival (FCGD) 2013.

The showing of “Cinema under the Stars” included a number of prominent figures such as former Dominican President Leonel Fernández and Vice President Margarita Cedeño de Fernández, as well as other guests of honor who were hosted by Dr. Ricardo Hazoury, president of Cap Cana and Consortium Executives.

Jorge Hazoury, director of Cap Cana resort, expressed his appreciation to those present in the name of the consortium and took advantage of the moment to highlight the significance the Dominican Film Law and how it has promoted the advancement of the Dominican film industry.

He recognized the key role that Leonel Fernández, president of the Fundacion Global de Democracia y Desarollo (FUNGLODE), played in the approval and implementation of the Film Law. FUNGLODE is an important institution that helps develop the audiovisual arts in the country through multiple initiatives, including the FCGD.

Hazoury said that Fernández materialized the vision of industrializing the Seventh Art and reminded guests that the Film Law came out of this concept. The Film Law has been responsible for the considerable increase of production in the sector, which still has more expectations of growth.

He added that, as part of the expansion of the industry, the dream of Homero Internacional, a film production company, will become a reality.

Before the screening of the movie in the Plaza del Pescador, Jorge Hazoury gave Mr. Ellis Pérez special recognition for his work as Director of the General Film Directorate (DGCINE).

Pérez showed his appreciation for the distinction and emphasized that this is the birth of a new Dominican cinema, which has begun to transcend the comedic genre and expand into others, like fiction and drama. Mr. Perez said that in his two-and-a half years of management of DGCINE, the first phase has been completed.

Guests in Cap Cana were received in the Plaza del Pescador, at the Marina, to share their experiences with the movie world.

After this, they attended the screening of Operation E at this year’s the Film under the Stars which, as per tradition in the Festival, honors the Seventh Art under a dreamy backdrop.

Operation E tells the story of the birth in captivity of Clara Rojas’s child, the Colombian politician who was kidnapped by the guerillas.

After the screening, the guests enjoyed a musical performance in the Plaza del Pescador, and then a Midnight Party in the Dux Chivas Club.

 Operation E

Directed by Miguel Coutois Paternina, the film is a French and Spanish collaboration and has been recognized for the outstanding performance by the main character, played by Luis Tosar.

The movie tells the story of the expectations the world had with the birth in captivity of Emmanuel, son of Clara Rojas who’d been kidnapped by the FARC in Colombia. The handing over of the child to a peasant, and his lonely fight against the Colombian Secret Service and the FARC, to survive and protect his family make up this story of suspense and drama.
