One of the year’s most highly acclaimed films, Silver Linings Playbook written and directed by David O. Russell, has been named “Best Film of the Year” by Capri, Hollywood – The International Film Festival. In addition, the film’s extraordinary cast, which includes Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Robert DeNiro, Jacki Weaver, Chris Tucker and Julia Styles has been nominated for the Capri Audience Award and the Best Acting Ensemble of the Year. The special screening of the multi Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild nominated motion picture and Awards’ ceremony will take place on December 30th at Anacapri Cinema Paradiso. Capri, Hollywood will also screen Paolo and Vittorio Taviani’s Cesere deve morire (Caeser Must Die), Italy’s 2012 candidate for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar, along with a retrospective of at least five Italian films that have been previously selected in that category. Silver Linings Playbook garnered an impressive four Golden Globe nominations: the film for Best Picture (musical or comedy), Cooper for Best Actor (musical or comedy), Lawrence for Best Actress and Russell for Best Screenplay. It was also named Best Movie of the Year by the American Film Institute and has been nominated for four Screen Actors Guild Awards – Cooper for Best Actor, Lawrence for Best Actress, DeNiro for Best Supporting Actor and the cast for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. “A real masterpiece with a heartwarming story and amazing performances, ‘Silver Linings Playbook’ is high-quality, audience pleasing movie,” says Italian legendary director Lina Wertmuller, the Honorary chairperson of the Istituto Capri nel mondo, the organization under whose auspices the 17th annual edition of Capri, Hollywood will take place here from December 26th through January 2nd. “’Silver Linings Playbook’ is not only a great romantic comedy, but also one of the best films of the year, added Capri, Hollywood founder and artistic director Pascal Vicedomini. “We are delighted that Harvey Weinstein has made it available to our Festival. I’m certain that it will viewers in Capri, just as it is enchanting audiences worldwide.” Produced by The Weinstein Company and Mirage Enterprises the film is distributed worldwide by The Weinstein Company. Silver Linings Playbook and its stellar cast have been receiving acclaim since its unspooling at the Toronto International Film festival in September. It has already opened in the United States and many key international territories to excellent reviews and solid box office performance. It will open in Italy in March. The 17th edition of the festival will also screen Joe Wright’s adaptation of Leo Tolstoy’s epic classic Anna Karenina, Jacques Audiard’s Rust and Bone, Terrence Malick’s To the Wonder, Ang Lee’s Life of Pi, Ariel Wromen’s The Iceman, Karen Shakhnazarov’s (Russia) White Tiger, Juan Antonio Bayona’s The Impossible, Oliver Nakache and Eric Toledano’s Intouchables (The Intouchables), Lesse Hallstrom’s Salmon Fishing in the Yemen and Ben Affleck’s Argo. Capri, Hollywood – The International Film Festival 2012 is directed by Pascal Vicedomini and produced by the Capri in the World Institute. 1996 Academy Award®-nominated director Mike Figgis (Leaving Las Vegas) will chair the 17th annual event. The Honorary Board of the Festival is chaired by American producer Mark Canton, and it includes Jim Gianopulos, Harvey Weinstein, Jeremy Thomas, Avi Lerner, Lawrence Bender, Jason Weinberg, Vanessa Redgrave as well as Dante Ferretti, Francesca Lo Schiavo, Giancarlo Giannini and Italian music legend Tony Renis.
This year’s Festival is presented with the sponsorship of Smart (Mercedes), Hogan (Tod’s Group) as well as the Italian Ministry of Cultural Assetts, the Campania Region, the Chamber of Commerce of Naples. The celebration of International cinema will include many film premieres, a retrospective of the most remarkable films of the past season as well as the ceremonies for the much sought-after Capri Awards that will go to actors, writers and filmmakers.
