Norm Bolen becomes the newest chair of the NSI board of directorsThe National Screen Institute – Canada (NSI) is pleased to announce the election of Norm Bolen as the newest chair of the NSI board of directors, with Prem Gill serving as vice-chair. Raja Khanna and Brad Pelman, co-chairs since 2009, will remain on the board. “I am so pleased about the opportunity to chair such a well-respected board that represents all facets of the screen industry,” said Norm. “NSI staff and faculty continue to deliver market-driven courses and I’m excited to bring my industry experience to this new role. Many thanks to Raja and Brad – they have served the board very capably as co-chairs and I appreciate the opportunity to continue their successes.” “I’m looking forward to taking this executive role on NSI’s board,” said Prem. “I have long admired NSI’s training philosophies and the success of their alumni, and I’m thrilled to be able to bring my history and enthusiasm for NSI to the role of vice-chair.” “During our five years as co-chairs, NSI has welcomed John Gill as CEO and begun new initiatives to expand its market-relevant programming,” said Raja and Brad. “We’re proud to continue serving on this dynamic board and are excited to see what’s next for NSI under Norm and Prem’s leadership.” Norm Bolen is a media and broadcasting consultant. He has served on the NSI board of directors since 2006. He is the former president and CEO of the Canadian Media Production Association (CMPA). Previously Norm was EVP, content, for Alliance Atlantis Communications. Prior to joining Alliance Atlantis, Norm spent 21 years at the CBC as a journalist and executive, and finally as head of network television current affairs. Norm is a past chair of the Banff World Media Festival and the Hot Docs International Documentary Festival. Prem Gill is director of content at TELUS and has sat on the NSI board of directors since 2013. She directs the curation of TELUS’ Optik TV’s video on demand storefront across screens. Additionally, she drives the development and nurturing of innovative, unique local programming initiatives in BC and Alberta for Optik Local, TELUS’ contribution to community television. Prem previously spent almost a decade at CHUM Limited. Her last position was as director of regulatory affairs. Prem was also the creator and host of ColourTV, a Vancouver talk show focusing on underrepresented Canadian voices and stories. During her time at CHUM she was involved with NSI Drama Prize.
