Nicole Kidman received Outstanding Work in Cinema during the sixth edition of Los Cabos International Film Festival.

 

 
 
 

- We thank the allies who make posible to grant awards adding more than $5,250,000 MXN: Cinemex, FIPRESCI, Art Kindom, Labo, CTT EXP & RENTALS, SPR, Chemistry, Talent on The Road / World Talent House, LCI y Producers Network.

- During the Industry activities 300 Los Cabos Industry Meetings occurred, with the participation of 226 companies; 44 of them Europeans, 56 Mexicans, 102 form the U.S: and 24 from Canada.

- We thank the more than 140 allies and more than 130 media accredited who make possible the sixth edition of the Festival.

 

The fourth day of the 2017 Los Cabos International Film Festival was characterized by the audience that crowded the film theaters, the successful negotiations established by the industry area and, above all, by the awards given out to the programmed films, by the star whose career was honored, and by the projects that the jury of the Gabriel Figueroa Film Fund considered to be the most outstanding.

 

The spectacular Australian actress Nicole Kidman received this honor for her exceptional career that includes collaborations with directors such as Stanley Kubrick and Lars von Trier, Jane Campion, Baz Luhrman, and Werner Herzog, among others.

 

Kidman greeted the audience this afternoon after the screening of Yorgos Lanthimos’s The Killing of a Sacred Deer, in which she plays Anna, the wife of Dr. Murphy (Colin Farrell), who decides to adopt an orphan in his family, who slowly takes everyone hostage and asks an unimaginable sacrifice of the couple.

 

In addition of giving a press conferene at The Resort at Pedregal, where she talked about her first visit to Los Cabos and the magnificent place it is, the beginnings of her carreer and the challenging roles she has played in more than 60 films.

 

The winning films and projects are the following:

 


FILMS IN THE OFFICIAL PROGRAM

 

Los Cabos Competition Award: The Florida Project, by Sean Baker. The film’s producer’s received a cash prize of $300,000 MXN.

 

Los Cabos Competition Special Mentions: Ghost Story, by David Lowery, and Mobile Homes, by Vladimir de Fontenay.

 

Cinemex – México Primero Award: Yesterday Wonder I Was, by Gabriel Mariño. The film’s director received $300,000 MXN thanks to Cinemex.

 

México Primero Special Mention: The Darkest Days of Us, by Astrid Rondero.

 

Cinemex Audience Award: Camino a Marte, by Humberto Hinojosa Ozcariz. This film received $300,000 MXN for earning the audience vote.

 

FIPRESCI – México Primero Award: Yesterday Wonder I Was, by Gabriel Mariño. Three members of the International Federation of Film Critics awarded this prize, aimed at supporting a Mexican film internationally.

 

Art Kingdom Trailer Award: To Die in the Desert, de Marta Ferrer Carné. A $14,000 USD award to produce a film trailer, and equivalent to services starting with the creative process and completed with a DCP copy.

 

 

GABRIEL FIGUEROA FILM FUND – WORK IN PROGRESS

 

Work in Progress Award: History Lessons, by Marcelino Islas Hernández. This film in development received $120,000 MXN.

 

Labo Awards: Bayoneta, by Kizza Terrazas, and The Chambermaid, by Lila Avilés. $52,000 USD in postproduction services to each selected project. This prize is due to our ally Labo.

 

GABRIEL FIGUEROA FILM FUND – FILM IN DEVELOPMENT

 

Film in Development Awards: Noche de fuego, by Tatiana Huezo, and Israela and Talleen, by Trisha Ziff. Each film received a $150,000 MXN grant.

 

CTT Exp & Rentals Award: Dive, by David Pablos. $1,256,640 MXN in equipment for four weeks of shooting.

 

Talent on the Road / World Talent House Award: Tengo miedo torero, by Rodrigo Sepúlveda. $150,000 MXN in cash for this film.

 

LCI Award: Temple, by Lucía Gajá. Production insurance for $10,000 USD granted to a Mexican film by LCI Seguros.

 

 

GABRIEL FIGUEROA FILM FUND – TV IN DEVELOPMENT

 

Los Cabos Film Festival and SPR Award: Litempo, by Manuel Alcalá. Los Cabos International Film Festivaland Channel 14 of the Mexican Public Broadcasting System (SPR) awarded a grant of $100,000 to this project.

 

Chemistry Award: Penumbra, by Pablo Barrera. $300,000 MXN in services for the pilot of this TV series.

 

Los Cabos Goes to Cannes: Dive, by David Pablos. The Cannes Festival’s Marché du Film gave one accreditation for this film to attend the 2018 Producers Network.

 

Martin McDonagh’s Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri was screened during the closing gala. In this film Mildred Hayes (Frances McDormand), leases three billboards to scorn the passivity of the local sheriff in charge of finding her daughter’s killer, but soon discovers that in a rural, misogynist, and stagnant region of the U.S. the killer of a teenage girl could be anyone.

 

By the end of the night, the Festival held its closure party at Me Cabo Hotel, headquarters of the Indutry setion, where during three days 300 Los Cabos Indistry Meetings occurred, with the participation of 226 companies; 44 of them Europeans, 56 Mexicans, 102 form the U.S: and 24 from Canada.

 

The four winning films in the official program of this Festival that takes place at the tip of a peninsula where the desert meets the sea, will screen free of charge at Cinemex Puerto Paraíso tomorrow, on Sunday November the 12th, as the festival’s tribute to the Los Cabos audience.
