The Board of Trustees of Luxor African Film Festival (LAFF) decided to give a special tribute to Egyptian star Mahmoud Abdel-Aziz for his long and rich artistic career in Egyptian cinema. The Egyptian star accepted this tribute that will be given during the opening ceremony on March 18, 2014 as a special ritual in one of the Ancient Egyptian temples given the fact that the star is one of the priests of the art of acting in the African continent.

As per the ongoing traditions of the festival, and alongside Egyptian star Mahmoud Abdel-Aziz, LAFF will also pay tribute to one of the symbols of Sub-Saharan Cinema in Africa. During the previous two editions, LAFF gave tribute to Malian award-winning filmmaker Souleymane Cissé as well as Egyptian actress Youssra , filmmaker Moustapha Alassane, the leader of animation in Niger, as well as the internationally renowned Ethiopian filmmaker Haile Gerima and the Egyptian filmmaker Daoud Abdel Sayed.
LAFF is organized by Independent Shabab Foundation, with support from the Ministries of Culture, Foreign Affairs, Tourism, Youth, the National Bank of Egypt, and in collaboration with the Governorate of Luxor, and the Egyptian Film Syndicate.
