Luxor African Film Festival dedicates its third edition to the memories of Chadi Abdel Salam and Ousmane Sembène


The management of Luxor African Film Festival has recently decided to dedicate its third edition taking place March 16 to 24 2014 to the memory of late directors Chadi Abdel Salam from Egypt and Ousmane Sembène from Senegal.
LAFF president Sayed Fouad has announced that the selection committee films will continue its tasks until the end of next month, pointing out that the festival so far has received 191 films varying between long , short, documentary and animation representing 34 African countries including Burkina Faso , Nigeria, Cameroon, Congo, Cote d' Ivoire , Eritrea, Ethiopia , Gabon , Mali, Niger, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, South Africa , Mauritania, Tunisia, Morocco , Mozambique, Namibia , Central Africa, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Somalia , Sudan, Tanzania , Togo, Uganda , Zimbabwe, Algeria , Benin, Botswana, in addition to Egypt.
Fouad explained that certain countries from Asia , Europe and the Americas like France , Bulgaria, Brazil, the United States , Italy, New Zealand , Germany, Portugal, India , the Netherlands, Switzerland , England, Iraq , Yemen and Palestine will participate in the different competition of feature-length and short films given the fact their co-production outings with African countries. They will be also included in the Freedom Prize awarded by the Egyptian Press in the name of late journalist al-Husseini Abu Deif, the Egyptian martyr .
Fouad also added that LAFF 2014 will have Senegal celebrated as the guest of honor of the 3rd edition for its important role in the film industry of the Sub-Sahara. Fouad finally revealed that LAFF 2014 also invited Alpha Oumar Konaré, the former president of Mali, Mariam Ould Daddah, spouse of the late Mauritanian president Moktar Ould Daddah and the current minister of culture of Senegal.
LAFF is held with the support of the following Egyptian ministries: Culture, Tourism, Foreign Affairs, and Youth and the cooperation of the Egyptian Film Syndicate and the Governorate of Luxor. The Board of Trustees is headed by Dr. Essam Sharaf, former prime minister of Egypt.
