Antenna Documentary Film Festival - Award Winners and Encore Screenings Announced

Antenna Documentary Film Festival

Cinephiles don’t despair, the fifth Antenna Documentary Film Festival may be over, but the Festival have announced an encore of five of the ten sold out films.  Spartacus & Cassandra, Another Country, Nightfall on Gaia (Including a Q&A with Director Juan Francisco Salazar), Requiem for the American Dream, and B-Movie: Lust and Sound in West Berlin, will screen at the Verona cinema on Oxford St, from Thursday 22 to Sunday 25 Oct. Tickets can be purchased on Antenna’s website, the festival app and at the cinema.

Antenna’s most popular year to date wrapped up last night.  Festival Co-Director Richard Welch said, “We are delighted that both audience and box-office numbers have once again broken all previous records. The continuous growth the festival has enjoyed since its inception helps to let us know that we’re on the right path and emboldens us for the future.”

The Chauvel cinema played host to the 2015 Festival Awards on closing night ahead of Finders Keepers. Director Ioanis Nuguet scooped the International Award for his film Spartacus & Cassandra. Sydney born Simon Cunich was awarded the Australian Shorts Prize for Maritus. Sydney local Kathryn Millard won Best Australian Documentary for her film Shock Room, with a special mention going to Australian Director Molly Reynolds and her film Another Country.

Special Encore Screenings include;

  • Spartacus & Cassandra – Catch Antenna’s Best International Documentary Winner, which tells the story of siblings Spartacus & Cassandra. From a life on the streets to being under the care of a compassionate young trapeze artist Camille, two young Roma children find themselves torn between their biological street family and prospects of stability with the circus.
  • Another Country - A firsthand account of how Indigenous communities reacted when their way of life was interrupted by settlers and how two established societies may never be compatible.
  • Nightfall on Gaia – Poetic and contemplative, Nightfall on Gaia offers a fresh perspective and opinions towards a continent on the edge and a species on tipping point.
  • Requiem for the American Dream – Chompsky’s opinions and insights into the global powerhouse that is the US. Filmed over a four year period and possibly the last chance to see one of the world’s most eminent and insightful intellectuals.
  • B-Movie: Lust and Sound in West Berlin – 80’s Berlin at its grungiest and most creative. B-Movie revisits the vibrant music and art scene. A trip down memory lane to a once divided Berlin’s punky, druggy, trashy past.
