An in-depth look at the legendary punk band, The Stooges.
Gimme this glorious documentary about rock legend Iggy Pop and his incalculably influential band The Stooges. You wanna know where Punk Rock started? Right here, with James Newell Osterberg Jr. (aka Iggy) switching from drumming with garage combo The Iguanas to taking on lead vocals and forming The Psychedelic Stooges in 1968. Dropping the psychedelic part of the name Iggy, Dave Alexander (bass), Scott Asheton (drums) and his brother Ron Asheton (guitar) crawled out of the Detroit rubble and played their debut gig on Halloween. The earth shook. The rest is rock’n’roll history. Iggy is in great form here recalling the band’s amazing highs and abject lows. Directed by Jim Jarmusch (Stranger than Paradise, 1984; Only Lovers Left Alive, 2013), Gimme Danger features priceless archival footage of a band that barely sold any records in the day and is now rightly regarded as one of the most important musical acts ever to have taken the stage.
