The 5th edition of Dimension 32011, held from May 24 to 26 in La Plaine Saint-Denis, confirmed itsleadership as a European platform for 3D images and technologies, through aseries of images and products previews…

This year, Dimension 3 wasspread out across two areas: the Pullman Dock hosted the exhibition and theconference room, while the Haussmann Dock was dedicated to new uses for 3D,artistic installations and events (classroom, home cinema, photo studio). As a result, a greater success with many professional visitors from avariety of backgrounds, 3,780 visitors in total from 37 countries.

The Forum’s visitors had the opportunityto see The Prodigies, the first Frenchmotion-capture in 3D (produced by Warner Bros Entertainment) set for release inFrance and Belgium on June 8. The screening was presented on May25, in the prence of the film’s stereographer Olivier Rakoto, (trainee at the2008 S3D Campus program*…)

Dimension 3 Festival hasrecognized the excellence of 3D creation by awarding the Grand Prize to Pina3D, directed by Wim Wenders.The Festival gathered 103 programs from17 countries. For 45 % of these programs, it was their firsttime being presented in a festival. Films screened in public for thefirst time that earned a Dimmy Award included La 3e voie (directed by Jean-Michel Tari), Journal d’un frigo (directed by Joséphine Derobe) and Miss Daisy Cutter (directed by Laens Sanchez).

New products…

This year, over70 exhibitors had gathered on the Pullman Dock (i.e. 30 % more thanthe previous year) demonstrating the diversity of the stereoscopic 3D marketand reaffirming the considerable presence of the ecosystem of new images. Dimension 3 has again confirmed its role as an internationalshowcase, with several companies presenting their products for the first timein Europe or even worldwide, e.g. Panasonic, Sony, ASSIMILATE, Avid, Sublab,AMD…

This edition demonstrates the maturity ofthe stereoscopic 3D market, being a must-attend conference with130 international speakers giving some thirty talks. Dimension 3 also hosted the first public presentation of thecreativity cluster as a part of the Greater Paris, organized by the regionalauthority of Seine-Saint-Denis; the presentation was given by Plaine Commune,in partnership with the Ile-de-France region.
