Captivating 'Dead on Arrival' by Stephen C. Sepher ranks high on all criteria one can apply to a noir film

Dead on Arrival by Stephen C. Sepher is an extraordinarily captivating film ranking high on all criteria one can apply to a film noir thriller and bringing it close to an artistic exercise in film making. We have the story’s lush location in Louisiana’s bayous, a superbly executed production design relying on the facilities the sleepy small town offers with its country roads and water ways, and sets ranging from junk yards to the local seedy night club with its assorted collection...

What would you do if you had only 24 h to live? Dead on Arrival by Stephen C. Sepher reviewed

Review: Dead On Arrival by Stephen C. Sepher (US, 2017) by Martin I. Petrov There’s not an easy answer, and in most cases, knowing that the end is around the corner wouldn’t have been the preferred option. Though, that’s not what Sam Collins’ fate has in store for him.   A young man speeds up on the highway, and minutes after he is kneeling breathless next to his car, suffering from severe pains. First time director Stephen C. Sepher leaves a lot of unanswered qu...

Dead on Arrival, Review by Siraj Syed: Sex, corruption and corpses

A pharmaceutical sales representative is driving when he has a seizure and barely manages to stop his car and crawl out. Picked-up by a Sheriff on patrol and taken to a hospital, he is told that he has been poisoned and will die in the next 24 hours. Time to realise that you are just two minutes into the film, when the stage is already set for a noir thriller that is inspired by the 1950 classic but speaks the cinematic language of today, delving into the dark world of drugs, greed and forbidd...

Fin Fatal: DEAD ON ARRIVAL review

Directed and written by Stephen C. Sepher  USA  2017  (97 minutes)   This is a brilliantly atmospheric, engaging and stylish contemporary adult  thriller with a cultish pedigree, as it is inspired by  a famous film noir from 195O, also called D.O.A, which due  to a copywright confusion slipped into the public domain and has already been variously remade, Down Under, as Color me Dead (1969) and as D.O.A (1988), starring Dennis Quaid as the moribund hero, and...

Directors statement on making DOA

user
why you decided to make DOA? We thought that it has been a while since a good Noir film has been made and we were very much attracted to the concept of a man being poisoned with less than 24 hours to live!  The idea of what you would do if you are caught in a small town where you cannot trust anyone and your clock is ticking was pretty intriguing.  This concept was very exciting for me as a director.    Our film is inspired by the 1950 DOA, but it is certainly not...
