Radiant Films International has sold multi-territories to the delightful comedy Handsome DevilRadiant Films International has sold multi-territories to the delightful comedy Handsome Devil starring Fionn O’Shea (Netflix’s Jadotville), Nicholas Galitzine (upcoming The Changeover), Moe Dunford (History Channel’s “Vikings”), and Andrew Scott (BBC’s “Sherlock”), it was announced today by President and CEO, Mimi Steinbauer.
Written and directed by John Butler, key international sales have been completed with Rialto for Australia and New Zealand, Salzgeber for Germany, and Tongariro Releasing in Poland. Radiant previously sold the festival favorite to Icon Distribution which had successful theatrical releases in the UK on April 28th, 2017 and Ireland on April 21st. Breaking Glass Pictures is planning a theatrical release in the U.S. in June 2017.
“The accessible characters of Handsome Devil coupled with a warm and charming story is resonating strongly with the buyers who are looking for films that not only entertain but illuminate issues of our times,” said Steinbauer. “Our distribution partners have thoroughly embraced the potential of the film. As experts in releasing independent films in their markets we are excited to see Handsome Devil in cinemas near you.”
The feel-good Irish film made its world premiere at the 2016 Toronto International Film festival where it charmed audiences and critics alike with its winning performances and the director’s polished filmmaking. The film kicked-off the Glasgow Film Festival on February 15, 2017 and was the Closing Night Film at the Dublin International Film Festival on February 26th.
Handsome Devil centers on Ned and Conor who are forced to share a room at their rugby-obsessed boarding school. Despite their differences, the bullied outsider and the dashing star athlete form an unlikely friendship until it is tested by the faculty and students. Seemingly destined to become enemies, the boys decide that sometimes you don’t have to pick a side in life - sometimes being yourself means being a little bit of everything.
The film is produced by Rebecca O’Flanagan and Robert Walpole for Treasure Entertainment. Co-producers are Claire McCaughley and Sarah Gunn. ICM handled U.S. rights. 20.06.2017 | Cannes Market Dailies's blog Cat. : FILM
