Marché du Film 2015: The Doc Corner Program online

The Doc Corner is the one-and-only professional meeting point of the Marché du Film entirely dedicated to feature documentaries aimed for theatrical-release. Directors, sales agents, buyers, festival programmers, producers and distributors of the international documentary film sector gather at the Doc Corner around an exclusive content: a doc-only video library, regular professional talks and business meets, friendly get-togethers and drinks, and, first and foremost, customized tables for exhibitors to hosting their appointments and promoting their line-up.

For those in search of a hidden documentary gem in Cannes, the answer might just lie within the walls of the Marché du Film's Doc Corner.

Now in its fourth year, this dedicated space for documentaries comes complete with its own digital video library and reserved sales tables to strike future deals, not to mention the opportunity to meet new talent and old hands working within this booming sector, and to learn from a series of talks with handpicked professionals.

"It is the place to be in Cannes for documentaries. It is a specialized venue, housing everyone from festivals to sales agents that operate in the world of documentaries, including also producers and filmmakers. The response has been extremely positive. With weeks to go until the market, we have already fully booked eight exhibitors’ tables and are planning some Doc_Meets and Doc_Talks with some of the industry’s most active players," said Julie Bergeron, Head of Industry Programs for the Marché du Film.

The Doc Corner is made up of several elements.

On one level it functions as a one-stop hotspot where buyers and festival representatives, for example, can watch feature documentaries produced within the last year.

The digital video library contains over 300 titles, including several curated sections, whereby titles have been specially selected by such documentary festivals as CPH:DOX and IDFA, as well as by prominent sales agents, each of them having chosen five films to be spotlighted at the Doc Corner.

In addition to these lineups pushed forward by festivals and sellers, all the companies and organizations registered with the 2015 Marché du Film have the opportunity to upload their own films via their Cinando account, free of charge, before April 26th. To have their feature documentaries automatically included in the video library, the films must be at least 70 minutes long and completed during the last 12 months.

The Doc Corner also features a series of events designed to provide a clearer understanding of the industry’s inner workings, as well as numerous ways of connecting with key professionals: a prime asset to gain project development leverage in view of current or future films.

The Doc_Meets is a series of three meet-and-greets in which participants will have an opportunity to meet with sales agents, doc festivals and funds, on three separate occasions. Three Doc_Drinks will follow on from the Doc_Meets to end the day on a social and networking note.

Meanwhile, for the Doc_Talks series, a line-up of special guests will be invited to give topical speeches on different doc-related issues.

Be on the lookout for the detailed program, to be published early May.

The Doc Corner appears to be well received within the industry and offers the documentary film community a unique platform for business and networking in Cannes.

As Tine Fischer, Director and Founder of CPH:DOX, put it: "CPH:DOX has since the initial launch of Doc Corner been a strong ambassador for the overall idea of creating a specific focus on non¬fiction film as a part of Marché du Film. It makes absolute sense for the documentary industry to have a focused market space during Cannes. We have during the last five years witnessed a strengthening of the market and network potential at Doc Corner and we believe that the growing inclusion of the entire documentary scene in Cannes is a strong sign of the importance of non¬fiction as a genre in contemporary cinema."
