Every year the “Pierre Angénieux ExcelLens in Cinematography” award ceremony pays tribute to a director of photography whose work has marked the history of world cinema. After Philippe Rousselot (2013), Vilmos Zsigmond (2014), Roger A. Deakins (2015) and Peter Suschitzky (2016), distinguished cinematographer Christopher Doyle will see his entire career recognised during an exceptional ceremony at the 70th Cannes Film Festival.
 
Chaque année, la Cérémonie « Pierre Angénieux ExcelLens in Cinematography » rend hommage à un directeur de la photographie ayant marqué l’histoire du Cinéma. Après Philippe Rousselot (2013) ; Vilmos Zsigmond (2014) ; Roger A. Deakins (2015) et Peter Suschitzky (2016), c’est au tour de Christopher Doyle, chef opérateur de génie, de voir sa carrière saluée lors d’une cérémonie exceptionnelle au cœur du 70e Festival de Cannes.

 
Of Australian origin and also known under his Chinese name, Du Ke Feng («like the wind»), Christopher Doyle has collaborated with many international directors (Alejandro Jodorowsky, Gus Van Sant, Barry Levinson, Jim Jarmusch…) and is renowned for his considerable contribution to Chinese language cinema. His love for saturated colours and violent contrasts has left a unique mark on more than sixty fi lms by prestigious directors such as Zhang Yimou, Edward Yang, Stan Lai or Zhang Yuan. 
 
D’origine australienne et également connu sous son nom chinois, Du Ke Feng («comme le vent»), Christopher Doyle a collaboré avec de nombreux réalisateurs internationaux (Alejandro Jodorowsky, Gus Van Sant, Barry Levinson, Jim Jarmusch…) et se distingue par son apport immense au cinéma en langue chinoise. Son amour pour les couleurs saturées et les contrastes violents, a ainsi laissé une empreinte singulière dans plus de 60 fi lms de réalisateurs prestigieux comme Zhang Yimou, Edward Yang, Stan Lai ou Zhang Yuan.
 
His longstanding collaboration with Wong Kar-Wai (Chungking Express, Fallen Angels, In The Mood For Love, Happy Together, 2046) has made a deep impact on his work. An aesthetics, a style, an indomitable energy that were to become the hallmarks of the young generation of Hong Kong filmmakers.
 
Sa longue collaboration avec Wong Kar-Wai (Chungking Express, Les Anges Déchus, In The Mood For Love, Happy Together, 2046) a profondément infl uencé son travail. Une esthétique, un style, une énergie farouche qui deviendra la marque de fabrique des jeunes auteurs Hongkongais.
 
On Friday 26 May 2017, at the Buñuel Theatre in the Palais des Festivals, Christopher Doyle, surrounded by some of the most signifi cant directors, producers and actors in his career, will be awarded the “Pierre Angénieux ExcelLens in Cinematography” tribute.
