The film will be projected in the restored classics section of the festival in the Salle Buñuel of the Grand Palais today. Ms. Baratier was the DOP on the last seven films of French master director Eric Rohmer. She comes from an emblematic Film family, her mother Anna Baratier also a highly regarded film editor who edited the film to be shown today as well as most of her husband's other works. Diane Baratier entered the lensing profession as assistant to Raoul Coutard, legendary Nouvel Vague cameraman on numerous landmark films, among them Godard's "Breathless", 1959. Regarding her work with Rohmer she said that the most important thing she learned from him was self confidence in her own work. Rohmer, comparable in some aspects to Sweden's Ingmar Bergman, was an uncompromising screen artist who steadfastly refused any external influences and knew precisely what he wanted to achieve in his own unique films. In a word artist of supreme self confidence. It was this sense of artistic integrity and self confidence that she sees as the legacy passed on to her through her work with the Master. 18.05.2016 | Cannes's blog Cat. : FILM
