The Italian documentary I CAVALIERI DELLA LAGUNA / THE KNIGHTS OF THE LAGOON by Walter Bencini will be presented as a world premiere at the 64. International Filmfestival Berlin in the Kulinarisches Kino Film & Food.

I CAVALIERI DELLA LAGUNA / THE KNIGHTS OF THE LAGOON is an Insekt Film Production. The story of a fishing community drawing on the past and reinventing itself in order to survive.

Walter Bencini the director, Sergio Amenta aka “Il Topo” (The Mouse)  a former ex bouncer and leader of the crew, Marco Giudici aka "Nocetta" the isolationist and Francesco Mengoni aka “Jesus” the multiplier of fish, will be available for interviews on Friday February 14^th and Saturday February 15^th.

The Knights of the Lagoon

Synopsis

The story of a fishing community that has had to draw on the past and reinvent itself in order to survive. A human, poetic journey inside the Orbetello lagoon fishing community, using the fishermen’s stories to explore a new way of fishing, a philosophy of food production that cares about quality, the environment and people. A story of tradition and technology, humans and nature, passion and conflicts. Gruff men who can make us chuckle and make us melancholy, men who can laugh at themselves and at their situation, who tell their stories frankly, in all their individual contradictions. Heroes suspended between the destiny of a disappearing world and the romantic, stubborn desire not to give up, to keep alive their story, which is also the story of their families, of their fathers and grandfathers.

In the midst of this unprecedented economic crisis, in which the Western industrial system has revealed its complete failure, it is essential to highlight and promote alternative production models. The logic of small, local, cooperative businesses like this one might seem insignificant and anachronistic in a globalized world of corporations and astronomical turnovers, but in fact it offers the only way forward if we want to rediscover a harmonious relationship with the natural world.
