Berlinale Spotlight: Film Programme and Talk at the “Days of Cinema” in Palestine

From October 12 to 20, the Berlinale will present a film programme and co-organize a talk on the topic of film criticism at the “Days of Cinema” in Ramallah. The “Days of Cinema” is being put on by the ‘FilmLab Palestine’, which aspires to strengthen the film industry and, more specifically, create opportunities for young filmmakers to train and explore film as a medium in the Palestinian territories.

For years the Berlinale has had a global presence with curated programmes at film festivals or other cultural events around the world. From now on, these year-round activities will take place under the name Berlinale Spotlight. The Goethe-Institut will support the Berlinale Spotlight in Ramallah.

In Ramallah, the Berlinale Spotlight will show this year’s celebrated Golden Bear winner, Taxi by Jafar Panahi, as well as eight films co-funded by the Berlinale World Cinema Fund (WCF), and two extraordinary German films from the 2014 and 2015 Competition programmes. Vincenzo Bugno, project manager of the World Cinema Fund, will present the Berlinale Spotlight in Ramallah and, e.g., host a talk on the role and possibilities of film criticism. Discussing the topic with him will be the Turkish film critic and President of the International Federation of Film Critics – FIPRESCI, Alin Tasciyan.
