Isabel Coixet to open the 65th Berlinale

The 65th Berlin International Film Festival will open on February 5, 2015 with Nobody Wants the Night, the newest work by Spanish director Isabel Coixet. The film will also screen in Competition.

Live broadcast of the opening gala

The Berlinale opening gala at the Berlinale Palast will be broadcast live on 3sat and the Berlinale website.

 

Berlinale Goes Kiez

Selected Berlinale programme films and their stars will once again ride the "flying red carpet" to seven unique neighbourhood cinemas: Eiszeit Kino (Kreuzberg), Neues OFF (Neukölln), Odeon (Schöneberg), Kino UNION (Friedrichshagen), Sputnik (Kreuzberg), Thalia Kino Berlin (Lankwitz) and Toni & Tonino (Weißensee).

 

Berlinale Talents: Talent Press

Culinary Cinema: Street Food Market

The Berlinale Street Food Market will see a second round in 2015. Once again, food trucks will offer festival visitors delicious snacks made according to slow food principles.

Berlinale Camera

Food activists and slow food founders Alice Waters and Carlo Petrini will be honoured with the Berlinale Camera on February 8, 2015. There will be a limited number of tickets available to accredited press at the press ticket counter. Competition

Berlinale Special: Fifty Shades of Grey to celebrate its international premiere

The Berlinale will present the film version of the best-selling novel Fifty Shades of Grey on February 11, 2015, with director Sam Taylor-Johnson, author E L James and actors Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan in attendance. The film will be screened only once at the Berlinale.

Perspektive Deutsches Kino: Opening and closing films

The Perspektive Deutsches Kino section will open its programme with the feature film Im Sommer wohnt er unten (Summers Downstairs) by Tom Sommerlatte. In his directorial debut, actor/director Sommerlatte brings together an ensemble of German and French actors. The documentary Sprache:Sex (Sex:Speak) by Saskia Walker und Ralf Hechelmann will close the programme. The Perspektive programme is now complete.

Panorama

To date, 11 feature films and eight documentary films have been selected for the 36th Panorama. The Teddy Award will be presented for the second time at Komische Oper Berlin, and Udo Kier will be honoured with the Special Teddy 2015.

Berlinale Classics

The special series will show a total of five films. Confirmed are the world premieres of these three German films that have been digitally restored: Varieté by Ewald André Dupont (1925), Jahrgang 45 by Jürgen Böttche (1966) and 9 Leben hat die Katze by Ula Stöckl (1968). Tickets for Varieté are already available at www.berlinerfestspiele.de.

Generation

Thus far, 13 films from 12 production / coproduction countries have been invited to the youth film competitions Generation Kplus and Generation 14plus. The complete programme will be announced on January 14, 2015.
