Press Release on Animation Day in Cannes May 23 Cine Arts Gallery Grand Hotel Gardens

ADIC%2023%20MAY.jpg

A Musivision FILMS / ANIMAZE   -      Filmfestivals.com Production

Founded  by  Laurie Gordon (Montreal International Animation Film Festival  - Animaze Festival founder) and  Bruno Chatelin (filmfestivals.com co founder and Major Buzz Factory consulting founder).

The objective of the Animation Day in Cannes is to facilitate the promotion of Animation during the Cannes Film Festival which does not traditionally offer a window for animators besides the likes of Pixar or Disney.

Animaze – Le Miaff and filmfestivals.com decided in 2015 to take on this mission and provide a place for networking, fun, and promotion.

In 2017 ADIC returned stronger, offering a comprehensive line up from 110 submitted shorts, features, VR projects  and scripts with a final selection of 29 shorts and features (Animaze Daze in Cannes competition) to 320 registered professionals in animation including 56 Buyers, 87  media...

A  LOOK BACK INTO THE HISTORY OF ANIMATION DAY IN CANNES

3 years old....and kicking!
The objective of the first edition of Animation Day May 2015 was a  test  to validate the interest in  the concept.

With the second edition we gained strength and allowed our third edition to bring much more visibility  to the films and giving a stronger voice to  the success and powerful rise of animation for short, feature, documentary and related technologies.

We will be celebrating the powerful and ever increasing momentum of animation for short, feature,  documentary and related technologies.

WHY CANNES, AND NOT ANNECY...

Because Cannes has more media and international clout!
We planted this event during Cannes Festival with the confidence that  the biggest film event and market in the world , (gathering more media than any other event  besides olympics) could benefit and give the strongest echo to animators who have not been treated equally so far in this festival but can enjoy  the strongest possible push from 5000 media attending the event .

The rare times when animation was recognized happened  when one of the majors  was bringing a  premiere.  It is quite encouraging to see the festival pay a tribute to Jeffrey Katzenberg this year.

We thought we could initiate something positive with the help of the animation community which could raise the profile of this industry and at last give animators center stage in Cannes.

ANIMATION THAT MATTERS

Another strong element in our DNA was the desire to focus on films that matter.

Our panels have been focused each past years on this question 'will animation save our world"?

In 2016 we presented BILAL  by Ayman Jamal from Barajoun Entertainment (Dubai) the first Animation that Matters Award.  www.bilalmovie.com

This year we will give 5 prizes

BEST OF FEST ACCOLADES

Accolade to My life as Zucchini  by Claude Barras

Accolade to Seoul Station by Yeon Sang-ho

Seoul Station  is a Korean Animation where several groups of people try to survive a zombie pandemic that unleashes itself in downtown Seoul. It won in Fantasia and Asia Pacific Screen Awards

The "Best of Fests Accolades" 'paintings designed specifically for each film by french artist PAB  will be remitted (by Bruno Chatelin) to My Life as a Zucchini and his producer Max Karli (Rita Productions); for Seoul Station to Yejin Jeon (Finecut Co. ltd.)  She will receive her prize from Sheree Ramage APSA Asia Pacific Screen Awards.

ANIMATION THAT MATTER AWARD

The Animation that Matters Awards 2017 go to "Junod" by Shinichiro Kimura,  "Release from Heaven" by Ali Noori Oskouei and "Iqbal by Michel Fuzellier and Babak Payami

These prizes recognise the positive values and messages in movies that matter and make us grow as human beeings. The inspiration came to Bruno Chatelin from his Columbia TriStar days (Sony) when David Puttnam initiated that catch line for the Studio he was running.

"Bruno Chatelin commented: listening to David's vision, it struck me a lot at this time, , and I think that today's world needs even more films of these calibers. I am also impressed to see Cannes welcome such initiatives as Positive Cinema week, Better World Forum, Festival Sacred for Beauty, with Wim Wenders in town with Mgnr Dario Vigano (prefect of communication for Vatican) coming to Cannes with a message from the pope."

Yonathan Parienti  (Horyou.com CEO) , Laurie Gordon (Founder of Montreal International Animation Film Festival co founder of and Animation Day in Cannes) and Bruno Chatelin (founder of filmfestivals.com and Animation Day in Cannes) will remit the prizes at Cine Arts Gallery Grand Hotel Gardens.
