In a world of time a Clockmaker tries to create 'true love' before his world stops forever. A tale from a mechanical world. An homage to George Melies.

Director Biography

Cashell Horgan born in Cork, Ireland is a filmmaker/artist. He studied Multi-media at the College of marketing and Design in Dublin. After graduating he specialised in animation and made his first film Adeste Fideles, a social statement film about AIDS in Ireland. His other work included a multi-award winning animated short Paddy (2000), which took a humours look at a day of a typical rural Irish. Paddy claimed many awards and was short- listed for Oscar nominations.
While producing and directing TV program intros and short film inserts he also taught stop motion animation at the European School of Animation and later at National Film television School Ireland. He has made numerous television appearances regarding his work.
His visual music performance events combing video and live performers led to collaborations with Opera Ireland,Cork Opera House, European Capital of Culture Cork, and sponsorships from Apple computers and Philips electronics to name a few.

Director Statement

The film was originated as a stop motion animation but developed into a live action short using techniques in mask theatre. Told in the style of a classic fairytale my aim was to create a unique world that would be both memorable and endearing a place of magic and invention.
My intention was to create a wholly stylistic work that incorporates the unique panache and treatment of animation, puppets and clockwork automata’s into a multi-layered world of living dolls performed by real actors in real locations with composite sets and choreographed movements to create an automata world reminding us of our own. My own fascination with automata was sparked by creating armatures for stop motion animation. The themes and ideas that have formed the story “The Clockmaker’s Dream” are drawn from a love for science fiction and fantasy an homage to George Melies and the pioneers of Automatas.
