"A
story of love and political fiction, or if
you prefer, a character-based thriller," is
how Patricia Ferreira defines her first feature
project. The film is the intriguing and emotionally
satisfying tale of Paloma (Ana Fernández),
a psychiatrist who runs a remote hospital
in Galicia where she gets to know Mario (Miguel
Ángel Solá), who is suffering
from Korsakoff Syndrome, a real-life kind
of amnesia which is interesting because of
the light it throws on our normal memory processes.
In
Mario's case, his amnesia means he falls in
love with Ana each and every time he sees
her. The relationship deepens, and as it does
so, politically disquieting facts about Mario's
history start to emerge, forcing Ana into
desperate attempts to make him regain his
memory.
"Though
it's not a true story," Ferreira explains,
"it could be. It's a personal story which
then turns into a collective one."
