Stepping Out

by Eva Heldmann

Annette is a woman who knows
what she wants. Visiting a US army barracks she fantasises that behind every door sits a soldier watching television or polishing his boots. She's sure that if she knocked, went in and offered herself, she'd have an instant taker.

You see, Annette has a preference for Black American GIs, preferably well-equipped ones.

And she has no qualms about sleeping with two or three a day when possible. Such is the frank tenor of Fremd gehen, a film Annette Brauerhoch co-wrote with friend and director Eva Heldmann.

But with the American presence in Germany fast becoming history, there are getting to be fewer places where Annette can engage her predilection. "Fremd gehen shows a kind of female lust that is rarely seen," says director Heldmann, adding: "This was a special situation for German women because of the Occupation."
