Parallel: The Forum: Hubad Sa Ilalim Ng Buwan

Hubad Sa Llalm Ng Buwan

by Lav Diaz

All families have secrets. Often they are fairly harmless but sometimes they can destroy the fabric of family life. The latter is the case in Filipino director Lav Diaz's second feature.

When their fishing business goes broke, the Pajaron family return to their ancestral home. The father is a defrocked priest who married the woman who seduced him and caused his breach with the church.

Their eldest daughter was raped at an early age and is tormented by the memory, sleepwalking at night. The second daughter's life is shattered when she discovers who her true father is.

With little dialogue and moody cinematography, Diaz keeps the tension high as this explosive domestic drama unfolds.

Lito B Zulueta of the Phillipines Daily described Sa Ilalim Ng Buwan as "complex, engaging and strange".
