In
need of a breath of fresh air after all that auditorium
air conditioning? Then the Velo taxi service which is
on offer free of charge, courtesy of German pubcaster
ARD, could be just the thing. Based on the rickshaw principle,
the Velo taxi, which is simply a person on a bike carting
a small open air coach on the back, is the perfect alternative
to the fest's shuttle service.
The
Velo taxis, which can travel at the break-neck speed of
25 kilometers an hour, have been known to go as far afield
as the Forum's Delphi cinema. And after all, it's only
a half-hour trip. Velo drivers say that fest guests haven't
been put off by the cold Berlin weather which could well
be thanks to the blankets on board.
"They
are great for getting around Potsdamer Platz," says one
driver. "It isn't really the weather for long trips. But
the service has been going well."
