The
figures are finally in! In 1998 multiplexes
with at least eight screens in Belgium (16)
accounted for 68% of the country's box office,
compared to 49% for multiplexes in Norway,
or 31% in France, 38% in Sweden, 9% in the
Netherlands, and 5% in Switzerland, according
to the eighth edition of the European Cinema
Yearbook, published by Media Salles.
It
will be presented at 10:00 on 14 February,
in the Grand Hyatt Berlin, with the Source
Document containing profiles of the
cinema exhibition market in 31 European
countries.
With
Croatia, Latvia and Yugoslavia appearing
for the first time, it details the current
situation in each country by giving data
on the total number of cinemas broken down
into types, the classification of the top
10 films in each market, the list of the
most successful domestic and European titles,
plus data on the main exhibition and distribution
companies, funding for the cinema industry,
and taxation in the exhibition sector.
An
analysis of box office and admissions,
broken down by nation, has been added
this year, to allow more accurate analysis
of the circulation of European films outside
their own countries.

yearbook is also available on the web
