The
Man on the Moon
by Milo Forman
At
the Golden Globes, Jim Carrey made no effort to mask
his disappointment at winning the Best Actor in a
Comedy award he would have rather won for Best
Dramatic Actor. Not
only is his performance in The Man on the Moon
as Andy Kaufman , the stand-up comic, brilliant, but
Carrey also conveys the character's tragic side.

Nuri
Bilge Ceyan, the Turkish director of Clouds Of
May, is no stranger to Berlin. His feature debut,
Kasaba (based on his sister Emine's autobiography, The
Cornfield), was a 1998 Forum Caligari Prize-winner.
The new film also takes place in Anatolia,
but the placid rural rhythms of Kasaba are more menacing
in Clouds Of May.

out of competition: American
Psycho
Mary Harron seems to have done the impossible in creating
a credible screen version of one of the bloodiest works
of intended literature.

Carter was a doddle compared to the stresses of a Berlin press
