The Competition: American Psycho

American Psycho

American Psychoby Mary Harron

Mary Harron seems to have done the impossible in creating a credible screen version of one of the bloodiest works of intended literature, American Psycho. In fact, Harron, along with co-screenwriter Guinevere Turner, has managed to delineate far better than author Brett Easton Ellis the satirical aspects of the story, bringing to the fore the humour implicit in some of the book's most outrageous passages.

"I found the book funny," Harron says, though admiting that not everyone feels the same way. "Actually, it may divide that way: if you found the book very funny, then you'll go for the movie. "And although I found the violence disturbing, I thought it was a really brilliant satire."

B
rilliantly conceived opening credits trun the tables on viewers who will carry a lot of publicity baggage into the theatre and at the same time hint at some of the film's themes.
