Can you stand another gay romantic comedy? Well, you'd better, because this one's a pleasant hoot.

It's a clever take on the old boy- meets-boy love story, with obligatory bar scene, straight roommate, queenie colleague and a drag queen ready to eat the scenery, if required.

Gabriel (Christian Campbell) is an aspiring songwriter without much of a social life, who gets lucky one night in the subway and picks up a hot stud go-go boy, Mark (John Paul Pitoc). But finding a little privacy proves a major problem. Not only does Gabriel's best friend and childhood sweetheart Katherine (Tori Spelling) find it hard to take a hint to get lost, but his straight roommate seems to always get first dibs on "entertaining" in their studio flat.

So as the new friends spend the night trying to find a place to be alone, they also learn a lot about each other. And just maybe this isn't going to be a one-night stand after all.

Jim Fall directs Jason Schafer's fluid script with finesse. Although some critics have said the film is not political enough, Fall begs to differ. "The movie is subversively political because it is so accessible," he says. Owen Levy
