A terrifying look at youth gangs in what turns out to be Norway, a country whose pristine image seems light years away from this gritty action. Director Erik Poppe, a commercial director making his feature film debut, recreates in documentary-style a week in the lives of five young boys living in contemporary Oslo. "These youngsters' self-confidence is sky-high because they are younger than the age for criminal penalities from the authorities," says Poppe. "They know that they cannot be indicted or punished, therefore they are untouchable." Schpaaa (a slang term for 'cool') made a big impression in Norway. The ministry for children and family called for extra screenings. Owen Levy |
