Nina Hagen : Punk+Glory
 

Not far from the festival lies a Berlin institution immortalised by singer-animal activist-cosmic explorer Nina Hagen &endash; the women's restroom at Zoo Station. "Auf'm Bahnhof Zoo im Damenklo," recorded during Hagen's West Berlin "punk" exile during the late 70s and early 80s, is merely one facet of a career spanning classical singing, East German pop, Indian folklore, disco, New Age, Zarah Leander cover versions…

 

Musical and cultural chronicler Peter Sempel (Hustler For Life, Panorama 1998) pays tribute to this protean diva, while also revealing a softer side. Sempel largely eschews archive footage in favour of performance and backstage material, private scenes and encounters with family and admirers. NG
