In 1971, the International Forum of New Cinema was established besides the traditional competition. The Forum is an independent section considered worldwide as one of the most prestigious showcases for independent, experimental alternative films. Documentaries are accepted as well as feature films or other film genres, all a minimum of 60 minutes in length.
For the 14th Panorama section, 41 feature films, nine documentary films and 20 short films were chosen for presentation. Twenty productions are by women directors. 29 countries are represented and there are three world premieres. The European cinema, manifold and culturally diverse, has the largest share with 20 feature films this year.
