One of the queens of European cinema, Angela Molina has no doubt handled her duties as jury president with the same grace and style she brings to her rich and varied performances. "Festivals become more and more important every day," she says. "Not only do we get to see the kinds of movies that are being made around the world but it's also important for the marketing of movies as well." "Of course, prizes are important at the birth of a movie, " she continues. |

| "And I will always try
to give the prize to the movie that has the most value to the public.
Prizes awake the interest of the public. Then more people go to see the
movie, it earns more money and the money can be used to produce more movies."
What does she look for? "If you feel somehow transformed when you leave a film. Movies are an instrument that show culture. They are very important to the collective memory." No stranger to Berlin, Molina has been here quite often representing both Spanish and Italian movies. Last year she was here with a South American film. How did she react to being asked to sit on the jury? "Oh, I'm getting old!" she jokes. "For me it is a blessing to be on the jury, "she adds quite earnestly. " I'm learning an awful lot and I'm having a lot of fun...I feel a great connection to the people here at the Berlinale." OL |
