Fortissimo picks German-lingo pic

Stefan Ruzowitzky's Austrian drama Die Siebtelbauern (a Tiger Award winner at Rotterdam) has been acquired by Fortissimo Film Sales, the arthouse label of Lighthouse Entertainment Group. "It's our first-ever German-language pick-up," said Fortissimo's Wouter Barendrecht. Fortissimo also picked up Carlos Marcovich's Who The Hell is Juliette? (Mexico). "They're both films from first-time directors - we're interested in new talent wherever it comes from," said Barendrecht.

Fortissimo also announced the start of pre-sales on Wong Kar-wai's five-part television series, 2046, starring Maggie Cheung, Tong Leung, Chiu-Wai and Kaneshiro Takeshi. These five parts, each inspired by classic European operas, are also intended to stand as five separate entities.

Fortissimo has sold Fruit Chan's Made In Hong Kong (Hong Kong) to MK2 (France) and Cinemien (Netherlands); Motel Cactus by Park

Ki-Yong (Korea) to New Select (Japan), Creative Workshop (Hong Kong), Overseas (Singapore) and Star Movies (Pan-Asia); Postman Blues by Sabu (Japan) to BV Films (Scandinavia), Academy (Italy), Edko Films (Hong Kong), Scholar (Taiwan), Cathay Organisation (Singapore) and Star Movies (Pan-Asia.) Little Tony, the new film by Alex Van Warmerdam (The Dress) is the first Dutch-language film ever to have been sold to Warner Bros for Benelux.
