John Turturro, a Spirit Award nominee this year for Best Male Lead in Tom DiCillo’s Box of Moonlight, will serve as MC for the 1998 Independent Spirit Awards; Samuel L. Jackson and Jodie Foster will join him as Honorary Chairpersons.
Films nominated for best feature include The Apostle, Chasing Amy, Loved, Ulee’s Gold and Waiting For Guffman while nominees for best first feature include The Bible and Gun Club, Eve’s Bayou, Hard Eight, and In the Company of Men.
The nominees for best foreign film, which include all non-US produced titles, are Atom Egoyan’s The Sweet Hereafter, Wong Kar-Wai’s Happy Together, Claire Denis’ Nenette et Boni, Manuel Gómez Pereira’s Mouth to Mouth (Boca a Boca) and Emir Kusturica’s Underground.
The awards will be presented on Saturday, 21 March, in Santa Monica.
