Gala Film Distribution managing director Kenneth Rive has announced the renewal of the partnership between Gala and Mayfair Entertainment, two of the UK's longest and most successful arthouse distributors.
The deal that has been concluded will see Gala handling the UK distribution for all Mayfair/Curzon product with immediate effect.
Gala's eclectic line-up of releases for 1997 includes both new and classic films. Scheduled for release on 28 March is Bo Widerberg's award-winning Love Lessons followed on 6 June by Claude Lelouch's Men, Women: A User's Manual, which stars notorious French politician Bernard Tapie. The release also stated that Gala has acquired a further five titles from the Lelouch catalogue including Edith and Marcel, La bonne année and Toute une vie.
Following the renewal of rights from the BBC, the all-time great Citizen Kane is to be re-issued with a brand new print, as is a previously unseen colour version of the acclaimed Jour de fête. Also to be re-issued later in the year is John Ford's Oscar-winning The Informer starring Victor McLaglan.
In addition, Gala has acquired the Samuel Bronston library, which includes such epic films as El Cid, 55 Days in Peking, The Fall of the Roman Empire and Circus World. Mike Downey
