Norwegian director Vibeke Idsøe's NOK35 (US$5.3) million feature debut, Jakten på nyresteinen (Raiders of the Kidney Stone), was named Best Nordic Film 1996 at the 20th Göteborg Film Festival, Sweden, which closed last Sunday.
An audience jury voted Kjell Sundvall's Jägerna (The Hunters) Best Swedish Feature, while local critics preferred Kjell Åke Andersson's Juloratoriet (The Christmas Oratorio). Best Nordic Film, rated by spectators, was Swedish director Ella Lemhagen's Drömprinsen - Filmen om Em (About Em).
The festival had a record number of 105,319 paid admissions, up 3,000 compared to last year. JRJ
