After representing American Independents and Features Abroad at the EFM for nine years, Lynda A Hansen has returned to the Berlinale as newly appointed exec vp of Mystic Fire Video, America's leading alternative and special-interest label, now expanding into Europe.
The company touts more than 100 titles via video retailers, booksellers, the web and an in-house catalogue, ranging from music videos to documentaries on consciousness and healing.
'We have just opened an office in Amsterdam, as well as established Mystic Fire Italia, with Costanzo Alione, as the first steps into Europe,' said Hansen, who joined the New York-based operation last year, to take over the top position only a couple of weeks ago, responsible for acquisitions, co-
productions and world television sales.
Set up 12 years ago by filmmakers Sheldon Rochlin and Maxine Harris, mainly seeking an outlet for their own work, Mystic Fire Video took off seriously in 1988 with the release of the Joseph Campbell & The Power of Myth series. Hansen expects to add an annual 25 titles to the catalogue.
The company has recently entered co-productions, and is shortly to shoot a full-length documentary on Alan Watts & The Spirit of Zen, with Switzerland's RTSI Productions. Upcoming releases include My Name Is Abbie, a conversation with the 1960s' counterculture guru, Abbie Hoffman. JRJ
