News in Brief

Film Four's head of film David Aukin has issued a statement expressing regret at Scottish film-maker Bill Forsyth's decision to turn down £2 million of Film Four funding for his long-awaited sequel to Gregory's Girl 'after all the hard work that has already gone into the project.' Forsyth reportedly objected to Aukin's involvement with the Scottish Film Production Fund, a body he has accused of 'cronyism'. As filmmakers await news of how National Lottery money will be dished out south of the border, Forsyth's spat with the lotto-funded SFPF sets a worrying precedent. But Forsyth should be back behind the cameras soon - on Figment Films' new production, the portmanteau pic Alien Love Triangle, due to start shooting in the autumn.

DF1 Leo Kirch's digital pay-TV arm has won a court battle in Hamburg to sell its service nationwide as opposed to just in Bavaria. This overturns a prior judgement by a lower court. The move comes as Bertelsmann chief Mark Woessner claims that talks are still going on between the Kirch service and Bertelsmann dominated Premiere to resolve problems over a joint link-up. Premiere is jointly owned by CLT/Ufa, Canal+ and Kirch himself. Bertelsmann owns 50% of CLT/Ufa.

On 17 April, the court will decide whether it will endorse this ruling.
