Paulo Branco's new London production arm, Spider Pictures, will produce three titles this year and up to five after that.
Spider Films' first production is Clare Peploe's Never Mind (working title), a 1970s-set tale of class A substance abuse provisionally slated for a September shoot in New York and southern France.
Branco's UK producer Saskia Spender revealed Spider was close to signing a major UK writer for forthcoming projects and would continue to use young British talent.
She maintained Branco's UK launch was a direct response to the difficulties of finding UK distribution, pointing out Sharunas Bartas' Few of Us has sold to most of Europe but not the UK.
