This year the Teddy Awards are bigger than ever. Besides a full week of related events, there are cash prizes for winners, a new award category, and a Teddy Foundation has been founded.
'We wanted to get back to the original idea of what the Teddy is about: helping filmmakers find money to make films,' per Mabel Aschenneller, whose promotion company is organising the Teddy ceremony. This year Teddy winners are to receive DM2,000 (US$1,250). The new foundation will enable donors to underwrite administrative and prize costs. 'The new prize not only honours performers but any artist who makes a special contribution to the making of a film,' said Aschnneller.
Teddy is to be handed out at Haus der Kulturen der Welt on Sunday night. OL
