Yesterday evening the festival's selection committee met in the Festival Club. Under discussion were the highs and lows of the festival; it was generally agreed that the connection between the committee and foreign representatives, who also attended the party, will be intensified.

Festival director Moritz de Hadeln welcomed a delegation from the Moscow Film Festival led by Sergei Soloviev. Discussions took place about creating a homage to Berlin at the next Moscow event in July.

30 people attended a farewell lunch yesterday for Berlinale darling Kim Novak. The host was Berlin's mayor, Eberhard Diepgen.

Two unaccredited guests appeared on the stage of the Zoo Palast last night. As the cast line-up began they were joined by a pair of Martians from Tim Burton's Mars Attacks!. Warner Germany had hired two dwarves to walk like the aliens from the film.

A get well soon telegram has been sent to Berlinale invitee Michel Serrault, who had to cancel his visit after undergoing open heart surgery.

A leading US financial newspaper, has been concentrating more and more on the festival this year. Two articles have appeared, one focusing on the market and one on the festival.

The Inter-Continental hotel has come under fire from people as diverse as the festival director, journalists and Cathérine Deneuve. Aside from the enormous waits for the cafeteria and room service, most people are agreed that the message service has not been up to scratch
