News in brief

Flanders Image chief Rita Goegebeur announced that the seven-minute Leonie, directed by Leonie de Brouwer, has been officially selected for Cannes.

The film, financed by the Flemish government and Flemish broadcaster BRTN, deals with the difficulties of getting old.

Czech pubcaster Ceska Televize, which has previously touted its product at the MIP-TV and MIPCOM television markets, is attending the European Film Market for the first time, in a move to extend its sales operation.

'As we are now financially participating in almost 100% of all features produced in the Czech Republic, we will naturally check on which market places are most suitable for this kind of product,' said sales executive Jarmila Svorcova.

At the Berlinale, Svorcova is handling a catalogue of 76 productions, including 31 features, 10 of which are new - such as V Michalek's Zapomenute svetlo (Forgotten Light) and FA Brabec's Kral Ubu (King Ubu), from Alfred Jarry's classic.
