US and English-speaking Canadian rights to A Chef in Love, Georgian director Nana Djordjadze's Oscar-nominated film have been acquired by Sony Pictures Classics from UGC DA International. The deal was made shortly before the announcement that the film is shortlisted for Best Foreign Language Oscar. Screened in Cannes last year, the film is set in the 1920s and tells of a Georgian Princess' passion for a rather odd cook.
One notable absentee who will be much missed in Berlin this year is Sony Pictures Classic's Marcie Bloom, who suffered a major illness late last year and is still recuperating.
