Swedish director Jan Troell's Hamsun was the celebrated winner at the annual Golden Bugs ceremony. The Danish production by Nordisk Film was awarded the local Oscars for Best Feature, Best Actor (Max von Sydow), Best Actress (Ghita N¿rby) and Best Screenplay.
A domestic box office success with 750,000 admissions, Kjell Sundvall's JŠgarna (The Hunters), took the prize for Best Director. Lena Endre (Jerusalem) and Lennart JŠhkel (JŠgarna) were honoured for their supporting parts, and Harald Palgaard for his photography of Kjell-ke Andersson's Juloratoriet (The Christmas Oratorio). Danish director Lars von Trier's Breaking the Waves was voted Best Foreign Feature.
Handled by Lena Enquist, of the Swedish Film Institute, Juloratoriet is screening in this year's Berlinale Forum. Hamsun is screening in the European Film Market for Nordisk Film TV-Distribution. JRJ
