Shampoo Horns

If you haven't been regularly exposed to American talk shows, then here's an opportunity to get acquainted with New York club kids, that urban species of drug-inhaling, bizarre-dressing, amoral, distaff side of Generation X.

Set primarily in that New York institution of the night, Club 2000, in this 'one night in the life of' we get to experience close-up exactly what transpires behind the velvet rope that doesn't get lifted for everybody. This Spanish production was written and directed by Manuel Toledano who says about his first club visit, 'I became a 'member' of a family determined to live life to its fullest without being affected by rules or conventions.' Using the club kids' never-ending search for drugs and thrills, Toledano has interwoven three parallel stories. Punker Jonathan is a hardcore club-goer who in reality is a hopeless romantic searching for his prince. Tony is a novice on his first visit who loses his date; and Dennis is an ageing drag queen whose discovery of his HIV-positive status causes him to abandon the scene and take matters into his own hands. Sometimes funny, sometimes sad, Shampoo Horns ultimately documents an era and a place that may one day be recalled with fond nostalgia.
