Wrap-up
The
14th Annual AFI Fest, which showcased more than 90 films, closed
at the Egpytian Theater in Hollywood, CA Thursday October 26 with
an Awards Ceremony and the Gala presentation of director Philip
Kaufman's film Quills starring Academy Award-winning actor
Geoffrey Rush as the infamous French writer the Marquis de Sade.
The night before there had been a special tribute honoring filmmaker
Kaufman for his critically acclaimed work, several titles of which
were screened during the festival.
Primarily young "new" talent was honored for artistry in
filmmaking at the Awards Ceremony. Iran's Samira Makhmalbaf (director-screenwriter)
and Swiss producer Marco Muller took the Grand Jury Prize for Blackboards
(which also won a Jury Prize
