lAFI
is considered one of the top festivals in the US for movie buffs
to see works from new directors as well as acclaimed international
ones. This year's New Directions section screens 10 films from hot
new American directors, seven of which are world premieres. Also
on the lineup is Kenneth Lonergan You Can Count on Me, which
tied for the top prize at Sundance along with Karyn Kusama's Girlfight.
The festival kicks off with Joel and Ethan Coen's O Brother Where
Art Thou and closes with Quills from Philip Kaufman,
who will be feted with a separate retrospective.
