The company was founded
in 1995 and first produced a CD-Rom on the Cannes Film Festival as well
as created their first official website. This successful experience developed
into a focus on film festivals all over the world. Filmfestivals.com was
registered on July 26, 1995. Yes, you read it right, 95!
1996 - coverage of
the major international film festivals in partnership with Moving Pictures
International, a British film industry magazine.
1997 - creation of the worldwide festival directory and a monthly bulletin
board
1998 - Expanded to include films reviews, pertinent articles…
1999 - Launched the film and festival databases, a weekly news edition
and services to festival organizers and filmmakers.
FilmFestivals.com
has well over 7000 pages (we stopped counting a while ago), aimed at both
movie buffs and professionals, focusing on film festivals and motion picture
events. The site content is bilingual, English and French.
TEAM
The filmfestivals.com team was comprised of 15 people in 1999, expected
to increase to 35 by the end of the year 2000.
Malo Girod de l'Ain, President & CEO The Company was founded in 1995 by
Malo Girod de l'Ain, who created the first official web site for the Cannes
Film Festival and then plunged into the world of film festivals. Previously,
he was involved in the computer software industry for more than 10 years.
He held VP and President positions in venture capital and software publishing
companies and was a management and data processing consultant in New York
and Paris. Doctorate in engineering and law diploma.
Bruno Chatelin, COO in charge of marketing sales and development. He began
his career with leading international advertising agencies as account
director for 10 years then spent 10 years with in film distribution in
france. He has launched 250 movies as marketing director and managing
directo For Columbia TriStar Films and FOX. In 1995 he built the joint
venture between french major UGC and FOX. . He
also has a long experience of interactive media for promotionnal strategies
and has lcreated two web sites for small office home office. HEC MBA graduate..
Louis Reyes-Tanguy, VP & CFO Born in New York, Louis Reyes-Tanguy is well
experienced in negotiating and dealing with film production and sales
contracts. He served as CFO at Gaumont (largest French film production
and movie theatre company) from 1989 to 1993. It was as member of the
board of directors at Le Point that he acquired first hand knowledge of
the ins and outs of a weekly news magazine. Before joining FilmFestivals.com,
Louis headed the production and finance department of an Internet and
CD-ROM publishing company. He holds a M.A. in Economics from the University
of Paris.
Carol Shyman, Editor US citizen, born in LA, Carol holds a B.S. in Sociology
from the University of Kentucky. She has been responsible for the FilmFestivals.com
editorial content since 1996. Prior to that Carol worked as a freelance
journalist and photographer in collaboration with the French press: Le
Monde, Libération, Actuel, Premiere…as well as for numerous film archives
(BIFI, CinéPlus, Cinéstar…). She also freelanced as a translator including
film subtitling (Odessa Films, TVS, The Jacques-Yves Cousteau Society…).
Nicolas Pafsides, Webmaster Nicolas holds a degree in tourism and was
founder and director of an Internet development company. As a passionate
movie buff, he arrived at FilmFestivals.com with the intention of bringing
the site's cinematic content in relation with the latest in Internet techniques.
Xiang An, Technical Director Born in China and holding a doctors degree
in telecommunications, Xiang has been working for the past 15 years in
the development of tools for the database industry and the Internet.
